About Us

The First Presbyterian Church of Bowling Green has a rich history of nearly 200 years of faith and service.  With God’s help, we endeavor to live into our Christ-centered Mission by worshipping together each Sunday morning at 9:30am in our beautiful, historic sanctuary.  Connected to other Christians around the world through the Presbyterian Church USA and Missouri Union Presbytery, we seek to serve, learn and enjoy the grace of Jesus Christ.

Our church family is led by locally elected Elders and Deacons, Pastor Julie Leverenz, and others members of our congregation whose gifts  are lifted up and shine through our ministries. Our mission initiatives – like food and clothing collections, collaborations with school counselors to support students, and blood drives – help us spread Jesus’s love. Our weekly worship services include a vibrant choir which rehearses and prays together each Wednesday at 5pm during the school year, a children’s ministry embedded into our weekly worship services, and biblically-based sermons which make God’s Word practical and relevant for those gathered.  The Lord’s Supper is served on the first Sunday of each month as well as during special seasons of the church, and our table welcomes all who seek Him.

Pastor Julie was recently commissioned as a pastor after having spent more than thirty years in healthcare and leadership development. Having felt called to share her ministry gifts in Missouri Union Presbytery, Julie completed several years of seminary preparation to become a Commissioned Ruling Elder (CRE) in the Presbyterian Church. Living in the area and with a lifelong membership in this congregation, she has been commissioned to serve in Bowling Green as the pastor of this congregation. Julie and her husband own and operate a farm in rural Bowling Green. She completed her undergraduate degree in Communications at Mizzou and later received an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis. Most recently, she completed a Certificate in Congregational Leadership at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. Appointments with the pastor are always welcome.  She can be reached by emailing JLev.JoyintheFog@gmail.com or by completing the “Contact Us” form on the website.

Often our congregation and visitors enjoy gathering after worship on Sundays for fellowship. Please check out the announcements tab for upcoming special services and activities that might appeal to you.  We welcome all to join in our community of faith, and to become a part of our church family….or just visit when you can!  If you have a prayer request or special need, please complete the form embedded in the “Contact Us” tab.  Check out the link to our Facebook page found on this home page where you can hear the choir, learn about upcoming events or just begin to virtually engage with us. We’d love to meet you.

As His church we strive to deepen our faith and understanding of His call for our lives, and to share the love of Jesus Christ in all we do.  Please join us!
